ANZACs vs KMCC

On Sunday August 3, the ANZACs took on KMCC, formerly DCC. The
match got away under cloudy skies with a threat of rain only 23
minutes after the scheduled start, which we should consider an early
start. The pitch was fairly damp after a substantial amount of rain
during the match played on Saturday. The ANZACs chief tosser went
to the middle and showed his skill in accurately calling a sixteen
rotation heads up landing of the coin - eerily similar to his later
fielding exploits. The ANZACs took the opportunity to enjoy the
favorable bowling conditions.

The innings started very well for the ANZACs. After Hugh opened
with a maiden over, Satbir set about impressing the lone spectator
with the first wicket of the day, a fine catch in the slips by
Shekhar. Satbir followed that up with the first run of the day, a
wide. Hugh's second over was a beauty which ended any hoped KMCC
had of a decent total by knocking the stumps back twice with
tremendous deliveries. Nineteen deliveries into the game KMCC were
3 for 1, and the procession was well underway. There was a brief
defiant stand for the sixth wicket, which was extended generously by
the ANZACs captain while he imitated a two year old on ice skates
with a failed catch attempt. But after a great caught and bowled by
Ketan on a ball headed for a two bounce four, the generous finger of
umpire Dave Kumar continued the procession. The innings ended in
the 27th over with a paltry total of 74. The only contribution of
note with the bat was 23 by Muzzaffar, while the bowlers picked up
some impressive figures:
Hugh 5.1-2-5-3
Satbir 4-0-10-2
Deepesh 6-1-17-2
Ketan 6-1-17-3

After the usual extended lunch break the ANZACs innings began with a
flourish. Apparently Satbir likes to play in front of an audience
as he took 14 runs off the opening over and continued to race to 41
off 22 balls in just the seventh over. Ketan, meanwhile, at the
other end was plodding along content to block the few balls that
Satbir left for him. He finally opened his shoulders for a great
cover drive that split the fielders. The batsmen turned for two but
a great throw by the fielders found Satbir short of his ground at
the non-strikers end ending the partnership at 48 to which Ketan had
contributed 5. Ketan departed the field two overs later to a good
catch and it was left to Shekhar and Panda to see off the remaining
24 runs. They took their time until Panda found some balls to his
liking ending the innings with a six and four for a great eight
wicket victory in just 13 overs.

It was another complete performance for the ANZACs who improve their
record to 8-1-1 and puts them in first place on the points table.
Now they seek to finish off an impressive regular season as they
prepare for the playoffs.
