ANZACs vs CCC

On Saturday April 27, the Anzacs took on their old foes, CCC at  Shiloh. Even though we were fielding a depleted side, we were pretty  upbeat and confident. Hugh won the toss and put CCC in to bat. Parth and Satbir opened the bowling for the Anzacs. The CCC openers seemed
to be in good nick as both Parth and Satbir were negotiated with  ease. CCC was off to a flier with 60 runs coming in the first 6  overs. Yogesh came in to replace Satbir and without looking really  threatening managed to stop the wanton flow of runs. At the other end  Hugh brought himself on to replace Parth and immediately showed why  he has been the most dependable bowler for the Anzacs by grabbing two  quick wickets. After Yogesh got the dangerous Ahmed at the other end it looked like the Anzcas had clawed back from a difficult situation and could restrict CCC to under 175. However a dropped catch by Yogesh and some really good hitting by the lower middle order enabled  CCC to reach 234 which was about 30-40 runs more than we had. Hugh  and Parth coming back to finish their quotas were not successful in stopping the runs in the slog overs. Chasing 234 was never going to be easy but it was doable. Harman and
Satbir opening the batting looked untroubled by the bowling and made steady progress. Harman continued his good form this season and Satbir looked good for another fifty. Our runrate was a little below the asking rate in the initial overs but that did not matter as we had a lot of batting to follow. Satbir was out to a excellent catch in gully opening the face of his bat and Andre going in at one drop was the victim of an astounding catch at point. Yogesh went in next and proceeded to build a good partnership with Harman. We were 97 after 15 overs and looked in really good shape. However Harman got a shocking decision for LBW when he was playing really well. At this stage Shankar, the CCC off spinner came on to bowl a beautiful spell. He got Shekhar with a beauty, bowled around his legs and also picked up the wicket of Keyur. At the other end Yogesh kept up one end trying his best to keep up the scoring. Parth then came in to play a wonderful cameo which promised to win the game for us. After Parth was out for 23,Hugh came in and promptly ran himself out, taking off for a single after hitting the ball straight to the fielder. The
asking rate was getting higher and higher when Shankar finally got the better of Yogesh getting him bowled. Kartik, Ketan and Sudeep tried their best to score the remaining runs but in the end it was too much to get.Even though we lost the game it was notable the way we fought back when CCC were going great guns. That we again lost the plot in the final overs is a different story.
