Who are we?
North Carolina Cricket Club
The North Carolina Cricket Club is based in Raleigh, North Carolina and has the following lofty aims:
The club is better known as the Carolina ANZACs Cricket Club and we play cricket hard but hopefully in the true spirit of the game. We welcome people of all skill levels to come along and learn about the game, support the club, or having a beer after a match. We pride ourselves on being the most diverse team in the league (members from ten countries so far), and the only team that has regularly fielded Americans!
The North Carolina Cricket Club contains a number of cricket teams for which we are always on the look out for players …
Young Americans Cricket Club …
One of our greatest ambitions is to field a team entirely of American born players. So far we’ve only had a handful of American’s playing for us, so our ambitions remain unachieved, but what is life worth if one doesn’t have a challenge?
Lady ANZACs Cricket Club …
It is the greatest ambition of a number of our members whose mother's haven't yet managed to arrange a marriage for them. Fortunately we'll be keeping this mangy lot of no-hopers well away from any women who want to play cricket. There are only a few women’s teams in the U.S. but one more should add to the fun.
Carolina ANZACs Cricket Club …
We welcome players and anyone else interested in participating in the team, or having a beer after a match. We pride ourselves on being the most diverse team in the league (members from different countries), and the only team that has regularly fielded Americans!
Wandering ANZACs Cricket Kinship (WACKers) …
The Wandering ANZACs have been sighted playing cricket throughout North Carolina, Virginia, Sarasota (Florida), Canada and Connecticut. We received invitations to play in many places around the world, including California, Colorado, England, Hong Kong, Thailand and Australia. Our ability to travel distances is dependent on many factors, mostly financial, but it is hoped that in time, we will be able to field an eleven almost anywhere. Players are openly and brazenly solicited.
Every Thanksgiving, the WACKers travel to Florida to play in the Sarasota International Cricket Festival. This is a six a side tournament that attracts teams from all over the world. We usually do quite well until we run up against teams containing former test players – with predictable outcomes. We also travel to Philadelphia to play in an eleven a side international festival (where we play against current test players) at 130 year old cricket clubs, and have toured to Toronto (a 150 year old club) and Connecticut (a 10 year old club).
Membership of the Wandering ANZACs is open to all past and present Carolina ANZACs players and to anyone else interested in playing cricket, drinking and touring. The most important criteria are a willingness to play cricket according to the spirit of the game, to pay one's fair share just to be there and a predisposition to having a good time. Whining about lack of playing time is frowned upon.
